| Brands Hatch BSB Pre Season Test |
We enjoyed almost spring like weather at the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit yesterday for the BSB and Support classes test. This was a real bonus considering how cold it was at Brands Hatch the weekend previous.
The main aim of this test was for me to work hard on getting a decent base setting into the bike and also to dust off the winter cobwebs prior to the first round of the British Supersport in two weeks time.
We started off the day working on new spring specifications in the forks and shock which instantly changed the bike for the better. As we worked throughout the day we were able to get more and more feel from the bike and now only need to make a minor alteration to the fork settings prior to the race weekend. We are testing at Snetterton next Friday so I will be able to try the forks prior to going onto Brands Hatch.
The new engine was also feeling very good with a real top end punch so im now very excited about this season.
This time last year we were only running high 50's or 51's laptime wise but yesterday I managed to get back into mid 49 second laps which felt very comfortable and I am now seeing where improvements can be made. With another day on track next Friday to dust the rest of the cobwebs off im really confident going forward to the first round of the British Supersport.
OK im not going to fool anyone into thinking I will be battling for top positions but a top 20 would be ultra special. My enthusiasm for racing has really come back with a massive hit this season so far and im really looking forward to stretching myself as much as possible to make huge improvements this season. Being out at this level will help me to do this as the BSS round we did last season on the GP circuit taught me so much.
Massive thanks to Stu Gill, Nicky Wilson for their help on the day, not forgetting Steve!. Also to Bernard Elliott who helped make the day possible! |
